O-lineman Visiting UTSA

Last week, this O-line prospect from Katy High School (TX) received an unexpected call. He hadn't heard from the UTSA coaching staff since early spring. So when the staff informed him that he was getting an offer, he was surprised and excited for many reasons.

You never forget your first ever FBS offer. That alone makes it stand out. Secondly, he has a lot of family in South Texas and they've all been rooting for him to stay close to home.

Aaron Sowell, a 6'2" 280lbs O-line target projects as an interior lineman at the next level. utsa is recruiting him as a center. He's known to be very aggressive and have an above average motor that allows him to finish blocks. The Tigers are a run heavy team so getting after their opponents and doing some road grading is all in your typical days work.

He's visiting UTSA this weekend and the program is new to him as he's never been on campus before.

"I've looked into it and I've been very impressed. I didn't know the academics were coming along that quickly," said Sowell.

Aaron had his season cut short because of a torn ACL he suffered in Week 9. He cheered and helped coach from the sidelines as a spectator for the Tiger's run all the way to winning the Texas 5A D2 State Championship. Right now, he has a 6-8 months prognosis of when he could be fully released as he approaches the 2nd month of rehab.

The Runners have come on strong and it's been somewhat of a whirlwind for Sowell.

"It's all been squeezed into a three week window, but I'm seriously considering UTSA because I have a lot of family in South Texas. I just need to take my looks before I decide. This weekend will mean a lot. I won't make a decision until the day before signing day. It's a major step and I need to weigh all of my options and talk with my family," said Sowell.

Katy High will have at least 4 other football student athletes sign with FBS programs and not including their other sports. Because of the large numbers of signees that Katy usually has, the Tigers traditionally now have an announcing ceremony the day before NSD. February 5th, looks like the date Aaron will make the call.
