2013 Hoops Recruiting Board

UTSA now has 3 commitments for the 2013 class and is looking to at least add one more. The 'Runners are in need of adding some size and 2 of the 4 known targets are big men.

The last 24 hours have been action-packed on the recruiting trail for UTSA hoops. IRS confirmed the commitment of combo guard Keon Lewis (North Idaho JC) and late yesterday afternoon the staff's interest in SMU transfer Uche Ofoegbu.

Here's a breakdown of the remaining UTSA targets to close out the 2013 class.

Lonnie McClanahan, 6'1" 175lb PG (Kilgore JC)

Late last night we confirmed that McClanahan still does have a legit offer and at this time is simply trying to make a decision. It's pretty much down to UTA and UTSA. A strong bodied point guard who can score at the hoop. Took his official visit of UTSA on Friday & Saturday and then visited UTA on Sunday and Monday.

Uche Ofoegbu, 6'4" 200lbs SF/SG (SMU/Stevens SH)

IRS confirmed that UTSA and Rice have shown the strongest interest in the former Stevens HS wing. After only 1 year, parted ways with Larry Brown at SMU. Athletic, slashing wing who has a nice jump shot and can shoot from deep. Was a Scout.com 3 star prospect (2012) and had offers from the likes of Colorado, UTEP and others. Does not have a formal offer yet, the staff is trying to get him on campus for a visit.

LaTree Russell 6'7" 240lbs PF (Des Moines Area JC)

A big body, strong low post player averaged 13 pts and 5 rebs this past season on his way to 1st Team Team All Region honors. As of Wednesday evening, paperwork was still pending to have his visit officially finalized to UTSA for this coming weekend. Has good length and with his strength and body, is tough to move in the low block and can take up space in the lane.

Kaj Sherman 7'0" 250lbs C (North Idaho JC)

Visited this past weekend with teammate and now UTSA commit, Keon Lewis. Is said to have really liked his visit. Is long and because of his size can be a much needed presence in the lane. Is not super athletic, but shows good moves and finesse around the hoop. Averaged 8 pts and 6 rebs for the Cardinals. Is visiting Montana this weekend.
