UTSA Visits QB

A new name has emerged in the search for a quarterback in the 2014 recruiting cycle. This DFW prospect fists the mold of what UTSA is looking for.

McKinney Boyd quarterback Curtis Ladd was paid a visit by UTSA offensive coordinator Kevin Brown this week. While Boyd was not extended an offer, it was made clear that he is in definite consideration to become a future Roadrunner.

"I'm definitely in the mix for their quarterback position," Ladd said regarding his discussion with UTSA. "They explained to me that they're not going to offer out a bunch of scholarships. They're going to be patient and evaluate. So I'm going to be patient with them."

Ladd, who stands at 6'1" and weighs in at 190 lbs, has flown relatively under the radar in terms of recruitment. However, Ladd is remaining patient while waiting for his first offer.

"I'm just working hard every day, trying to get better, and being thankful that I will have an opportunity to play quarterback in college. Especially in the state of Texas where there is some much good competition," said Ladd.

Rice has been in the most contact with Ladd. In addition to UTSA, New Mexico has also made contact with him. As a top academic student, Ladd is also considering Ivy league Universities such as Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Harvard, and Dartmouth.

"Those Ivy League schools are the top schools in the world," said Ladd. "It's rare for someone to have an opportunity to go to one of those places. I take a great deal of pride in potentially having that opportunity."

While it's still very early in the process, Ladd makes it very clear how he feels about the fledging Roadrunner program.

"UTSA is on the way up," said Ladd. "If I get that offer, it would be something I would definitely consider."

Ladd possesses all of the skillset to be a quality Division 1 quarterback: nice arm-strength, good vision, size, and a bit of speed. But more than all of that, he takes pride in leadership.

"A lot of my teammates look up to me," said Ladd. "It's my job to be a good role model. I take pride in that."

Ladd is anxiously awaiting a UTSA offer so he may visit the campus. UTSA will continue to review more of his film and has told him they will stop by more of his practices this spring.

Ladd is planning to attend one of UTSA's summer camps.

In 2012, Ladd completed 86-of-165 passes for 1,018 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed for 387 yards and two scores.
