UTSA Offers Mesquite Athlete

Late Friday evening InsideRunnerSports.com confirmed that UTSA has extended an offer to Mesquite Poteet Athlete Nathaniel Gaines.

Nathaniel Gaines plays both sides of the ball for his Mesquite Poteet team. As a wide receiver Gaines is a lengthy prospect with good hands. As a safety he's know for good vision and his playmaking ability.

"UTSA has been recruiting me for a month," Gaines said on Friday evening. "Tonight I called and they gave me an offer."

Gaines currently holds six offers: UTSA, Navy, UTEP, SMU, Northern Illinois, and Utah State. According to Gaines, UTSA is certainly in the mix.

"Right now I don't have a list of favorites. UTSA plays legit competition and they have a good program. I'm always open to a school that offers me a scholarship," said Gaines.

The coaching staff is looking at Gaines on the defensive side of the ball. His skill set is that of what UTSA has recently recruited at the safety position. At 6'3" and 170 lbs, he can certainly fit into the Hard Hat Defensive scheme.

"They like me as receiver also, but they think I'll fit in best at safety," said Gaines. "I'm just really a ball hawk, I know how to hit somebody, break up passes, and just make plays."

Gaines' hopes to make his decision late in the summer or early into his senior season.
