Corvallis Regional Preview

The 2013 NCAA Baseball tournament gets underway today. UTSA meets Oregon St tonight at 7pm. But first InsideRunnerSports breaks down the Corvallis Regional.

UTSA Baseball is participating in an NCAA Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2005. Here's a preview of the teams participating in the Corvallis Regional:

- #1 Seed Oregon State RPI: 5 Record: 45-10, 24-6 Pac-12

The Beavers began 2013 by winning 15 straight games. Through the course of the season Oregon St has only lost two games in a row once. The Beavers are a very good pitching team. OSU has three really good starters: Matt Boyd, Andrew Moore and Ben Wetzler. A total of 9 nine pitchers have ERAs below 3.00. Offensively, nothing really jumps off the page with the Beavers but that hasn't hindered their success. Oregon St has built their program on pitching and depth at that position.

Key Oregon St Players

Andrew Moore RHP: 1-2, 1.22 ERA, 55K, 21BB

Matt Boyd LHP: 10-3, 2.09 ERA, 98K, 24BB

Dylan Davis OF: .344, 38 runs, 20 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 4 HRs, 53 RBIs

Michael Conforto OF: .332, 42 runs, 8 2Bs, 1 3B, 9 HRs, 42 RBIs

Andy Peterson IF: .341, 41 runs, 28 RBIs, 14 SH, 11 SB

- #2 Seed Texas A&M RPI: 34 Record: 32-27, 13-16 SEC

The Aggies upset Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament to earn their bid in the NCAA Tournament. Having won 8 of their last 11 games prior to the SEC Tourney, the Aggies are playing well at the right part of the season. Right handed pitcher Daniel Mengden is one of the best players. Not only is he the top pitcher but also finds his way on base. UTSA played Texas A&M earlier in the season and fell short after a long rain delay.

Key Texas A&M Players

Krey Bratsen OF: .287, 28 runs, 22 RBIs, 20 sac, 17 SB

Daniel Mengden RHP: 8-3, 1.84 ERA, 91K, 21BB

Jason Jester RHP: 3-3, 2.32 ERA, 13 SV, 37K, 12BB

Mikey Reynolds IF: .343, 38 runs, 12 2Bs, 24 RBIs, 18 SB

Cole Lankford C/IF: .332, 24 runs, 15 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 3 HRs, 34 RBIs

- #3 Seed UC Santa Barbara RPI: 56 Record: 34-23, 17-10 Big West

The UCSB Gauchos are a team very similar to UTSA is status. Nothing really jumps off the page offensively or with their pitching. UCSB went 11-4 in the month of May and that's how they made the regional.

Key UCSB Players

Tyler Kuresa IF: .304, 35 runs, 16 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 5 HRs, 45 RBIs

Cameron Newell OF: .313, 37 runs, 6 2Bs, 1 3B, 25 RBIs, 12 SB

- #4 Seed UTSA RPI: 109 Record: 35-23, 15-11 WAC

No team in this regional is hotter than UTSA, having won 10 of the last 11. UTSA goes as their pitching goes. Brock Hartson, Michael Kraft, and Nolan Trabanino have been a solid rotation. Closer Matt Sims has absolutely shut down as of late. Offesnively, UTSA has the highest batting average in the region (.304).

Key UTSA Players

RJ Perucki IF: .349, 49 runs, 12 2Bs, 12 HRs, 46 RBIs

Riley Good OF: .336, 46 runs, 82 hits, 11 2Bs, 6 3Bs, 2 HRs, 33 RBIs
