On July 20, Micah Thomas
of Vista Ridge High School committed to Arkansas State
of the Sun Belt Conference. He was aiming to have a decision before the start of the school season and didn't want to worry about recruiting during his senior year. A phone call earlier today from UTSA
Defensive Coordinator Neal Neathery, followed by an offer just might change those plans.
"I talked to Coach Neathery. He told me that I'm his number one linebacker prospect. He really liked my USA Football film. He liked my open fielded tackling ability and closing speed," said Thomas.
Micah had already accepted that if a UTSA offer was coming, it wasn't going to be until his football season, so today's offer did catch him somewhat by surprise.
"I wasn't expecting an offer from UTSA until the season, so I was a little surprised. He looked at my USA film and then my junior film. He felt that I could play end, but offered me at LB," said Thomas.
He still remains committed to A-State, but is keeping his options open and UTSA is definitely one of them.
"Coach Coker is a great coach, he's won a championship. I like Coach Neathery, the rising program and the campus. So yeah, I'll be considering UTSA," said Thomas.
Thomas does know that he doesn't plan on using any official visits on in state schools, so expect some unofficials instead.
With his hectic summer and workout schedule, Thomas has dropped 10lbs and is now weighing in at 226. The staff said they'll be in touch and keeping a close eye on him.
Since our last update Micah has picked up new offers from Cornell, Navy,Air Force, and now UTSA.
Talk about Thomas' recruitment in the UTSAInsiders Forum
Just short of two weeks ago, IRS told you that the UTSA Staff wanted to see some live game action of this latest prospect and then make a decision on offering. Well after seeing some USA Football film, they've seen enough.
