Coker Speaks With Media

Head Coach Larry Coker shared his thoughts following UTSA's victory over UNM and on the week headed into Oklahoma St.

- San Antonio, TX

On Monday morning, UTSA Head Coach Larry Coker held a media round table discussion. Here is an excerpt of that conversation:

General Thoughts on New Mexico:
"It's a good win for us. Being 13 down at halftime and coming back being able to win a football game, I think that says a lot about our players. With a 99 yard drive, with also a fourth down stop at mid-field, but guys really stood up. I'm very proud of them."

On the play of the Hard Hat Defense:
"We challenged our defensive line. I thought our defensive line did a really good job. We did play a lot of players. We kept guys fresh."

On the current situation at Defensive End:
"I don't think we'll have to bring anybody out of redshirt. It doesn't look good for Jason Neill. William Ritter will be ready to go and have a chance to step in. We do have a little depth in the defensive line, which is a good thing for us."

On the Defensive Tackles:
"They really stepped up and did a great job. They were physical and really competed."

On the Punting Game:
"I was pleased with our punting game. Sometimes we got a bad bounce, we lost some yardage there. But all in all we did a good job in the punting game."

On the play of the Offense:
"You've got to make plays when there are plays to be made. We left some plays on the field. We had some guys open and we didn't connect. Those are things you learn from.

On the play of Offensive Tackle Jordan Gray:
"I was very proud of him. He came in and did a great job for us and really stepped in and competed. He really did an outstanding job. It will be a challenge this week because of size because Oklahoma St is very big and physical upfront."

On the play of the Running Backs:
"Jarveon Williams will be back this week. The really good teams I've been around have been able to run the football. And we're going to be able to do that. We're going to challenge our offensive line and running backs.

General Thoughts on Oklahoma St:
"Mike has done great job there. They're a very talented team. It's going to be a tremendous challenge for us. They're very big upfront."

On the challenge of facing Oklahoma St:
"You get into all of the hype and stuff. Here are all of these upsets. I don't think that stuff means anything to us anymore. It's what we do and how we do it. We've got a tremendous challenge ahead of us but again that's a challenge we're looking forward to."

On this week being the biggest in program history:
"We're trying to get past that. It's the most talented team we've played since we've been here. Last week was the biggest week. We needed a win last week. Now of course, this week becomes a big week. I want this to be a fun week for our players, our staff, and our fans. This is kind of a bowl atmosphere, as far as getting a team like Oklahoma St in here. I want our guys to enjoy this experience. We're really trying not to prove anything. This is all about us, it's all about our players. Certainly this is a big week for us, this is a tremendous challenge for us."
