Rich Rod on UTSA

InsideRunnerSports talks with Arizona Head Coach Rich Rodriguez about the match up with UTSA.

Arizona Head Coach Rich Rodriguez spoke with media on Tuesday about the match up with UTSA.

Thoughts on UTSA:
"We are very impressed. That was the first thing I told the team. Once you guys watch the film, you're going to notice they've got some really good players. Soza is very accurate and quick with his decision making. Their skills player can run, they're explosive. I've been very impressed with them on film."

On a potential let down vs UTSA:
"Our guys know what they're going against. These guys can play, they're well coached, and they're putting up points on everybody. Our guys saw the film and understand the challenge we have and they'll be focused on the game."

On his relationship with Larry Coker:
"I've known Larry since his days at Miami and we were at West Virginia. We played each other. Of course, he did a great job there. He and his wife and my wife have been on some trips together. We've seen each other at different functions. I just think the world of him. Obviously he's a great football coach but he's an even better person. I've always enjoyed spending time with him."

On installing his up-tempo offense at Arizona:
"It's unique every place you go. The biggest challenge is the pace and tempo you try to go every day in practice, which is new. They understand we're going to go no-huddle in the games but you have to practice it. Everybody has to be in tuned with that. The kids here took to it really well, we think we can keep getting faster as the years go on."

On judging if Arizona's offense is fast enough:
"For us, the key is getting first downs and getting three more plays to run. We can also tell by how much time is on the :40 second clock if we're really getting it off as quick as we want."

On the Arizona defense:
"We're playing better, which is to be expected because we have more experience and are a little deeper. We're playing with a lot of confidence. In camp, they were very active in creating a lot of turnovers. They've carried that over in the first two games. We've scored three defensive touchdowns, the guys have been very active around the ball. Hopefully we can continue that."
