"The Turning Point"

Several mistakes on a few second quarter possessions change the game.

UTSA had just come off a touchdown drive that saw the Roadrunners take a 7-6 lead early in the second quarter. The UTSA defense had just stopped Rice near mid-field on the next drive and seemed to have the momentum.

On the punt, returner Kenny Harrison signaled for a fair catch. On the catch, Crosby Adams was blocked into the ball (which is a legal move). Rice recovered the fumble at the UTSA 16 yard line.

Just a few plays later, Rice punched the ball into the endzone and re-took the lead.

While Adams was officially charged with fumble, it appeared that there was not the necessary communication between Harrison and Adams on the punt return to avoid that type of a play.

On the next possession, the UTSA offensive drive stalled and the ‘Runners were forced to attempt a 46 yard FG attempt. The attempt was short and to the right. The snap on the attempt was low and that appeared to throw off the timing of the entire play.

To further compound things, the Owls drove down the field in a two minute drill and scored another touchdown on a 37 yard pass just before haltime to take a 20-7 lead.

These four possessions changed the entire flow and momentum of the game and put UTSA is a whole they would not recover from.
