Game Balls

UTSA played fought hard as a team on Saturday and earned their first Conference USA win at home. Two players stood above the rest and earn our Game Balls.

Our InsideRunnerSports staff hands out our game balls for exceptional performances on Saturday.

Defense: Safety Nic Johnston

For the second straight game, Nic Johnston earns our defensive game ball.

Johnston followed up had one of his better performances of the 2013 season vs Rice with an incredible effort vs UAB.

Not only did he record a team high ten tackles, Johnston single-handedly forced two game-changning turnovers.

On UAB's first offensive possession, Johnston dropped back into coverage and recorded UTSA's first interception of the season. He returned the ball 13 yards to the UTSA 33 yard line setting up a Roadrunner touchdown.

Later on in the first quarter, Johnston forced a fumble on a UAB kickoff return. The fumble was recovered by Crosby Adams and returned for a touchdown.

Offense: Running Back Brandon Armstrong

Brandon Armstrong showed off his dynamic playmaking ability vs UAB.

Armstrong recorded a pair of exciting touchdowns, one on the ground and another through the air.

On UTSA's first offensive possession of the game, Armstrong took an option pitch 22 yards and scored the games' first touchdown.

To start the fourth quarter, Armstrong hooked up with QB Eric Soza for a long score. Armstrong was matched up with a linebacker and created separation. Soza hit him in stride for a 52 yard touchdown pass.

Armstrong rushed four times for 54 yards. He also had one reception for 51 yards. It was Armstrong's best game of the season.
