Hoops Practice Report: 11.12.13

The 'Runners are coming off of a tough season opening loss to Northern Arizona and look to get on track against a talented Houston team.

Head Coach Brooks Thompson and his 'Runners were hard at work Tuesday morning getting ready for a UH team that is off to a 2-0 start and will present some match-up problems against the smaller 'Runners. Our staff points out some key notes from Tuesday's practice

(Practice Notes)
--A majority of the practice the team worked on it's half-court offense. Continuous repetition of ball movement, from side to side, wing to wing. Working to find the open man and looking for any cutters to the hoop.

--The 'Runners used a mix of several players with the first unit, trying to get a feel for the best five on the floor. At times George Matthews, Keon Lewis, James Williams and Kaj Sherman all ran with the the first team.

--At the end of practice the 'Runners spent 15-20 minutes specifically working on free throws. After missing 10 of them against NAU, Brooks Thompson made a point to emphasize how important free throw shooting is. UTSA will have it's hands full with a talented UH lineup who features two 20 point scorers in 6'7" wing Daniel House (19.5 ppg) and 6'8" low post TaShawn Thomas (20.5 & 10.5). Point guard and Baylor transfer L.J. Rose is averaging nearly 14 points a game with 6 assists. Look for Jordan Sims to draw first assignment on the explosive wing House, while Edrico McGregor and Devon Agusi to draw the assignments of Thomas and Rose.

Tip is at 7pm on Thursday evening from Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston.
