UTSA Wins In Dramatic Fashion

UTSA Baseball began its 2014 campaign on Friday night with a 1-0 extra innings win over St Peter's.

RJ Perucki drove in the game's only run on a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the 10th inning as UTSA defeated St Peter'S Friday night at Roadrunner Field.

Starting pitcher Brock Harston and reliever Logan Onda combined to pitch 10 innings of scoreless baseball that only produced two hits on the night.

Behind the plate, UTSA Catcher John Borman was superb as he threw out three base runners.

Borman, who caught every inning of every game for UTSA in 2013, left the game in the fifth inning with a slight hamstring injury, he is not expected to play the remainder of the series.

UTSA plays St. Peter's on Saturday and Sunday.

POST GAME QUOTES

Head Coach Jason Marshall
"It's good to win on opening day. I don't know that we played great. It was an interesting day. I think there were some nerves and some anticipation. I was proud of the way we played defense."

Marshall on Starting Pitcher Brock Hartson
"He looked a rough around the edges at time. Most of that is him missing some practice. We definitely want to keep him on a schedule. He's on Friday night guy. We're expecting him to be that."

Marshall on Catcher John Borman
"John Borman is second to none. I think he's one of the best catchers in the country. You don't want to run on John Borman. He's a good a throwing catcher that I've seen in 18 years."

Marshall on moving forward after opening day
"We're just going to try to play the best baseball we can, especially early in the season. We talk about a nameless, faceless opponent in the other dugout. We just need to play good baseball. I'm excited to see a bunch of arms throw this weekend, to get a lot of guys out on that mound to get their feet wet."
