Solid, But Looking

Trevor Speights

Scout.com spoke with Memorial running back Trevor Speights from McAllen, Texas. The Arizona commitment had a busy summer which included many stops. He remains firm in his choice of the Pac-12 program, but what’s next for him?

Early in the recruiting process, McAllen (Tex.) Memorial running back Trevor Speights made a commitment to Arizona. And even today, that is still the case. But at the same time, the top 2016 back Speights has been open to hearing from other programs.

With that, though Speights is listening, something quite profound must be going on for him to seriously consider making a move.

“I have a great relationship with the Arizona coaches. I’m looking to get back out to the school when I can,” Speights said. “It will take a lot to get me to flip.”

And with that, a number of schools will have just less than two years to see if that holds up. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Speights was busy this past summer traveling to camp at Oklahoma, Kansas State, TCU, Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma State

From each stop, he got good feedback. That will perhaps lead to an offer.

“All the camps I went to, I expect an offer. Most of them want to see me this upcoming season,” Speights said. “Coaches really like my speed, footwork and vision.”

At the moment, he holds two offers (other than the obvious with Arizona) from Texas State and Rice, a place where he also camped. When Speights talks about speed, he said that he recorded his best time at Oklahoma State with a 4.38 40-yard.

This is around the same time with his body went through a transformation as well. He mentioned that he has put on 20 pounds, going from 175 to 195.

Now, going forward, Speights will make a few more rounds during the season.

“I’m going to see the Oklahoma State/Texas game. I also want to catch a Texas game as well, but not sure when.” Speights said.
